Sound Transit Finalizes Airport Link Agreement with Port of Seattle:  On April 13, the Sound Transit Board authorized execution of a Memorandum of Agreement with the Port of Seattle specifying the terms and conditions for development of Airport Link.  The Agreement allows Sound Transit to use Port rights-of-way, defines an integrated delivery strategy for Airport Link and related Port roadway projects, and defines budget of approximately $12.7 million for subsequent agreements necessary to implement the Agreement.  The Port Commission approved this agreement on April 11.

Airport Link is scheduled for completion by the end of 2009.  The adopted budget for Airport Link is $244 million.

Sound Transit Authorized to Acquire Property in SeaTac:  The Sound Transit board recently approved an amendment to the agency’s financial policies allowing for a strategic property acquisition program.  The program is intended to provide the agency with the flexibility to acquire properties necessary for implementation of the regional transportation system that are under threat of development, which would increase cost and community impact, or are available for purchase and are expected to retain value.  The program would enable Sound Transit to acquire properties that are part of projects not budgeted, utilizing Regional Fund resources on an interim basis.

In a separate action, the Sound Transit board authorized acquisition of properties necessary for the Airport Link Segment between SeaTac/Airport Station and South 200th Street, specifically including a portion of the L & R Investments property located at 18613 International Boulevard in SeaTac.

Airport Roadway Construction Projects:  The Port of Seattle and Southwest King County Chamber of Commerce held a meeting at City Hall on April 20 for SeaTac businesses to brief them on the upcoming airport roadway construction projects.  This construction will result in changes in traffic patterns in and around the airport starting this summer.  The Port will be conducting several outreach efforts to the various audiences impacted by the construction.  They encouraged those interested in up to date project impacts to check their Web site at www.portseattle.org

Tyee Campus Health Center:  Construction has begun on the facilities needed at the Tyee High School Campus to operate a student based health center.  The health center’s plan is to be open and providing service to students in early May.

Spring Special Recycling Event:  On Saturday, April 8, the City of SeaTac hosted its Spring Special Recycling Event.  Even through all the rain, there were a record number of participants with 514 loads resulting in a 33% more than average turnout.

Public Works staff and vendors worked to keep traffic moving so there were not any long lines.  These recycling events are grant funded and offer residents a wonderful opportunity to clean up their properties properly.
